Miyuki Parade held on September 15 every year is the mikoshi (portable shrine) parade staged at the annual festivals of three shrines, Hiyoshi Shrine, Yunozeki Shrine and Odorii Shrine, in Sekigane-cho, Kurayoshi City, Tottori Prefecture. It is a Shinto ritual handed down in this area since the Edo period (1603-1868). The parade of 85 people in total carries the portable shrines to the tentative shrines called Otabisho about 1.5 km away from the shrines. Each shrine has its own traditional manner and form to stage the parade. As the parade resembles the daimyo’s procession, it is also called Daimyo Parade. It is said to be a very unique folk event because it evokes every aspect of the daimyo’s procession including its procedures, skills and actions. The Yunozeki Shrine group in the lead takes the form of Dochu-Gyoretsu (the touring procession) and the next Odorii Shrine group takes the form of Tojou (attendance at a castle), while the Hiyoshi Shrine group in the last, the form of Gejou (withdrawing from a castle).
