Amebiki Kannon is an old temple known for the benefit of easy delivery and child raising. It is formally named Amebiki-zan Horakuji Temple. The main object of worship is the image of Enmei Kanzeon Bosatsu (Kannon of prolonging life), which is designated as a National Important Cultural Property. It is said that the pray for recovery from illness of Empress Suiko (554-628) was made at this temple. The temple was also worshipped by a lot of domain lords including Ashikaga Takauji, Tokugawa Ieyasu, and Tokugawa Yoshimune. They all dedicated a lot of land and buildings to the temple. In the modern time, the temple complimented the present empress with an easy delivery talisman. Climbing up 145 stone steps, you will see the Nio-mon Gate with decorated gorgeous sculpture. Flowers of azalea, hydrangea and many other seasonal plants along the front approach will be pleasant to your eyes. There is a huge Castanopsis sieboldii tree, which is 400 years old and designated as a Natural Treasure. The main hall used to have a thatched roof, but it was rebuilt in 2005.
