Jp En

Mabu is a mine shaft for silver mining. Shinkiri Mabu is one of the mine shafts in Iwami Ginzan Silver Mine Sites in Shimane Pref. The others are Ryugenji Mabu, Kamaya Mabu, Okubo Mabu, Fukujinyama Mabu, and Hon Mabu. The mabus are designated as National Historic Landmark. At the present only Ryugenji Mabu is open to public. Shinkiri Mabu was originally a water extraction shaft as one of the Ojikiyama, which means the mineshaft under the direct management of the Shogunate government. Silver mines in the Edo period were developed by the Tokugawa Shogunate and directly managed by the magistrate's office in charge. Shinkiri Mabu is the precious historical material that reminds us of the flourishing silver mine of the old times.
