Takeda Castle Ruins is one of the rare existing mountain castle ruins constructed at the top of Mt. Torafusu (353 m), from which it is also called Torafusu Castle. The stone walls, which were constructed with a special technique called Ano-Ryu Stonework, even now remain almost perfectly. It is said that Yamana Sozen, the ruler of the Tajima district (present Hyogo Pref.) ordered Otagaki clan, who was one of his powerful retainers, to build a castle in this place during the Kaei era (1441-1443). It took 13 years to complete the whole construction. This first structure was something like a small fort, but it was rebuilt into a magnificent castle about 400 years ago during the reign of Toyotomi Hideyoshi. He ordered to rebuild the castle after he succeeded in defeating the clans ruling Tajima district. It is one of the largest existing castle ruins with a scale of 400 m from north to south and 100 m from east to west, and is designated as a national historic site.
