本郷溜池 Hongou-tameike Hongo Storage Reservoir

Hongo Storage Reservoir is located by the Hongo River, which connects to the Yodo River, in Uda, Nara Prefecture.
  
Hongo Storage Reservoir is for the supply of water to agricultural areas in the west and north districts of Ouda town and was made by damming the Hongo River, whose source is Mt Otowa. The total storage capacity of the reservoir is 300,000m3.
  
Storage reservoir agriculture has been popular in the Nara Basin since even before the Meiji period, when many storage reservoirs were built. Hongo was built in 1935 and is a relatively new one.
  
There is an observation terrace at the reservoir where you can see the whole district. Many fish, such as the hera, can be found here, and it is a popular place for fishing.
  
Hongo Storage Reservoir is also famous for cherry blossom which, in April, are reflected on the surface of the reservoir.

余呉湖 Yogoko Yogoko Lake

Yogoko Lake is located in Yogo, Ika, in Shiga Prefecture. The total area of the lake is approximately 1.8km2. The deepest part of the lake is about 13m.

Yogoko Lake is associated with the history and cultural artifacts of the battle of Shizugatake, which took place here during the Warring States Period, as well as the Hagoromo legend. This legend tells of a celestial maiden who descended from the heavens and hung her robe on a willow that still exists today and is known as the 'koromokake-yanagi (robe-covered willow)'.

Yogoko Lake is designated as the Biwako Quasi-national Park and is also known as the 'mirror lake' because of the way its surface reflects the scenery and ambiance of the four seasons.

The shores of the lake feature various places for recreation, such as smelt-fishing, and outdoor spots like the Shizugatake hiking area and trails.

Yogoko Lake is actually managed and initiated as a dam to prevent flooding of the Yogo River and for irrigation purposes.

緒方井路 Ogata-iro Ogata Iro Watercourse

Ogata Iro is a watercourse that was once used for irrigation and that passes through the town of Ogata in Oita Prefecture.

The upper part of Ogata Iro was constructed in 1645 and the lower part in 1671, giving the watercourse its present shape. This agricultural watercourse was a lifeline from the mid-Edo period to the 1960s as it irrigated the fields belonging to the Ogata clan.

At one time the watercourse became polluted with domestic waste, but following a cleanup program in 1985, it even became a place used by children for swimming from the 1990s. Also, after the cleanup, fireflies started to appear. The watercourse and the watermill create a refreshing watery scene.
