インクラの滝 Inkura-no-taki Inkura Falls
|
Inkura Falls is a waterfall located in Shiraoi Town in the western part of Hokkaido. The waterfall is in the upstream of the Nishi Betsu-betsu River, which flows out of Mt. Tarumae. This cataract-type waterfall with a width of 10 m dynamically flows down the cliff with 50 m drop. It is selected as one of 100 Fine Waterfalls in Japan. It is affluent in flow volume and constantly running down with a roaring sound. It was originally called “Betsu-betsu Falls,” but as there was an inclined railway for logging laid near the waterfall, it has come to be called “Inkura Falls.” As the earth layer around the waterfall is composed of welded pyroclastic rocks, so-called soft stone, which is typical to this region, the land is very fragile and often changes its geological formation. For this reason, it is unfortunate that the area around the waterfall has now become off-limits. So Inkura Falls has been a visionary waterfall that is not allowed to see up close. You can’t do nothing but fantasize yourself looking up at the dynamic flow of the cataract in the breath of nature.
