Jp En

Okudorokyo is a gorge located in the upstream of the Kitayama River, which springs out of Mt. Odaigahara and runs through the prefectures of Wakayama, Mie and Nara. Okudorokyo is one of the three gorges composing Dorokyo Gorge in the Kitayama River; others are Kamidoro and Okuhaccho. Okudorokyo is located in the uppermost. This is a part of Yoshino-Kumano National Park.
Originally the whole river formed a gorge but part of it was submerged because of a dam construction. Along the gorge are a lot of strange-shaped stones and huge rocks and many other scenic spots.
The rafting to carry lumbers has been done for 600 yeas in this area. At present, rafting for tourists is provided and a lot of tourists come to enjoy rafting down the torrent.
